this is whats happening......i load a sample onto instrument 1 (from floppy...the sample is one instrument with 2 chops about 15 seconds each)
then some bass on instrument 2...
then when i tried to load drums on instrument 3, it says SELECT INST TO DELETE....
i want to load all this shitt on the asr10 at one time, but my problem is that the asr wont let me load too many instruments at a time....NOTE: I only have a couple of megabytes on my RAM
Do i need a ZIPDRIVE?....and what kind do i need because the guy that sold it to me says that i need a certain one for it to work............if not, then whats my problem here
The ONLY time the ASR-10 will ask you "Select Inst To Delete" is when you don't have enough RAM to load the file you're trying to load. It's asking you to delete 1 or more instruments so it can load the new one.
You just need more RAM. You can't just use ANY RAM though. It must be NON PARITY with 8 chips per SIMM. Then you must configure jumpers inside your ASR-10 to let it know how much RAM is installed.
As far as getting a ZIP drive, you MUST have the SCSI port installed. If you don't, you can't hook up a ZIP drive. The ZIP drive must be a SCSI drive. And the SP-3 SCSI kit for the ASR-10 in next to impossible to find unless you buy another system which already has one installed. But you COULD get lucky and find 1 on eBay. I was lucky enough to find one on there, but it's the ONLY one I've seen on there in the past 3 months.
All a zip drive will do is load and save your files MUCH FASTER than floppies. They're great to have, but your problem is lack of RAM. A ZIP drive will not help you with your problem.
And I'm gonna take a guess and say that you don't have the SCSI port installed.
