I am trying to format a disk to save a file and the disk drive starts the formating process than it stops and gives me the "file operation error" on the screen. I dont have any problems loading samples or the o.s. system. Does this mean my disk drive is fuct?

I have the EXACT same problem. My ASR just started doing this. Well...
my work around is using my pc to format floppies for the ASR 10. You'll need a Win 98 Boot Disk & Geibler's EDE program. Here are the links for both.

Windows 98 Boot Disk:
http://www.ensoniqsamplers.org/epsasr/033.html

Gary Giebler's EDE program:
www.soundcentral.com

click on "Musical Keyboard Sound Files" Folder
click on "Ensoniq" Folder
click on "Util" Folder
scroll down to ede107
click on disk under "Listen/Save"

I hope this helps...

Thanks for the heads up. Also, if you use the pc for formatting ASR disks,
it saves the life the floppy on the ASR 10. PC floppies cost five bucks and
are easy to replace. Anyway, just a thought. I'll try that, then I could use the drive when I'm away from my pc.

Scratch

Scratch what I said concerning the soundcentral link. Simply download the
bootable win98 disk, which includes epsdisk.

http://www.ensoniqsamplers.org/epsasr/033.html

It's a self-extracting program and automatically writes to floppy disk. After writing the program to disk you can restart your pc, making sure the bootdisk sequence has floppy as the first option. After booting to the dos prompt, simply type "epsdisk". Also, here's a link to a tutorial on using the program, it's very helpful.
