when you turn it on the instrument lights are on but the OS won't load and there is no text display. If you press any function keys #s show on the text display. Any idea what is going on?

Yep - If you are lucky it's blown a fuse or 2 on the power board inside the keyboard. I know this because it's happened to me before. You'll need to open it up and replace them yourself. They are easy to spot. There is a row of them at the edge of the power board. If you are not technically minded get someone else to do it for you. If you are unlucky it could be something worse, but I have had exactly the same symptoms as you describe and its always been the fuses.

This is completely within my abilities... I hope you are right. Thanks, it sounds like the fuses could easily be the solution. I'll let you know in a week or 2.

fuses and skeletons

well I opened her up and all the fuses look intact with no trace of burn or broken fillament. So something else must be wrong.
But I wanted everyone to know this....... right by the power ac line was a 2d plastic skeleton!!!!
It's a 1'' tall plastic cutout.. looks like some Nov 1st day of the dead celebration miniature.
that would explain the crazy music I've made with this ASR 10 over the past 8 years.
Even if I loose this ASR 10.... she was very good to me.

Did you actually change the fuses???
They sometimes blow where you can't see it under the end caps.
Like you, I first thought they were ok when it first happened to me. I stored the thing for 2 years then one day decided to have a fiddle about. I changed the fuses and it booted. It was only just possible to see a blown element or 2 AFTER they were removed from the machine and held up in good light.

fuses ( was starup Problem)

No I didn't change them. But it looked tricky because they are so small and deep in the body of the ast10. Do I need a tool or can you recommend a method to get them out?
