I turn it on, and the lights above the instrument buttons turn on, but that's it. It won't load the OS. If I push random buttons, like the up/down/left/right buttons, symbols appear on the screen. So the power isn't busted, no fuse blown. And the screen works. Is it just the disk drive?
HI, YOUR MOTHERBOARD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ONE OF YOUR VALVES OR TRANSISTORS OR WHATEVER THEY'RE CALLED, MAY HAVE LEAKED CAUSING IT TO GO BAD.
THE GUY AT "THE SONIQ" REPLACED MINES A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. NOW I'M BACK AND RUNNING AGAIN.
YOU CAN EITHER ASK HIM TO FIX YOURS,(IN WHICH HE WILL STILL CHARGE YOU A GOOD PENNY TO FIX IT) OR YOU COULD JUST BUY 1 OF THE ONES THAT HE HAS IN STOCK.
I RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO AHEAD AND SEND HIM YOUR KEYBOARD TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, BECAUSE IF YOU'RE NOT USE TO MESSING WITH THESE KEYBOARDS YOU CAN MESS UP SOMETHING BY TRYING TO FIX IT YOURSELF.
is it a rackmount? if so, try removing the cover, make sure all the cables/ribbons are still tight, and then boot it up with the cover off. If that works, then put the cover back on, but leave a some room for ventilation. I did this back in January with my rackmount, and I haven't had a problem since. I was getting the same problem you had for at least 2 weeks before I finally figured it out.
