Mono and Poly modes

Can someone tell me about the mono and poly modes. Is it possible to define each notes parameters or does mono and poly setting effect the entire instrament? Meaning if I want to chop a sample make a sequance in mono a mode so that playing one key stops the other, then layer other notes from the same sample on top as an overdub I would have to create a copy of the instrament and set its parameters to poly? is there a better way to do this.

the glide settings effect the layer you are currently editing within an instrument.

e.g. you could have like 5 different layers in one instrument and give each its own glide setting.

remember the hierarchy...ws are apart of layers....layers are apart of instruments

hope this helps.
