How to convert AudioTracks/DiskTracks to WAV?

Hello,

basically this is my problem. I have a few ASR-10 tracks with Ensoniq disktracks (audiotracks recorded on a SCSI ZIP), mostly (real) bass lines and vocals.

is there any way all to extract dikstracks from the ZIP disk and convert this to a WAV file?

I would like to be able to use/save those tracks the way they are without going through a lossy conversion through cable/soundcards.

It would also really be useful for another purpose, let's say you record a song on the ASR-10. You could then just change the INPUTREC to MAIN OUT and then just record your own song to a disktrack/audiotrack and there you go, you'd just have a perfect digital recording of the song, without going through analog lossy conversion through soundcard/cables.

If only there was a way of converting ASR-10 Disktracks to WAV using computer software, it means you could really have the best quality possible for your songs and recordings.

I tried extracting the audiotrack (ASMPL000 something) located on my ZIP disk but Translator doesn't work, it extracts nothing at all. From what i read, Ensoniq Disk Tools could possibly accomplish what i want to do but I could not install the only demo i could find since it's Win 98 only? the current link on ChickenSys is desactivated.

Thanks for any help

To convert ASR-10 Instrument files (.efe's) to .WAV , there's only 1 app...

It ain't midi disk tools

Trust me, if i'm M$ retarded, & can get it to work/covert , so can u.

p.s. i didnt speak on the Atraks cuz i never use them, and thought no one else did...

...but you indicated in your previous post that they aren't efe's.

However, if you (in your own words) "then just change the INPUTREC to MAIN OUT", and sample, you will have an .efe - which could then be easily converted to .WAV

I do this all the time.

Hi,

I am not trying to convert instrument files created through sampling (EFE) as you mention. I am using the ASR-10 as a digital recorder, recording audio tracks or disk tracks (my own playing of bass and guitar lines, vocals), the files end up on the SCSI ZIP disk. I can't use the sampler for these because there is not enough memory for the duration of these tracks, so they have to be recorded as audio tracks on a ZIP disk, they are called "disktracks".

Translator does not work for these files for some reason, it only works for instrument files.

I've contacted someone from ChickenSys and they mentioned they will work on adding this functionality to the software, they said it's possible.

Thanks for the reply.

Considering that the DiskTracks are an obscure feature on a sampler from 1993, I wouldn't look for a quick implementation of support for that feature from Translator. Of course, I cannot speak for Garth but I doubt that is the kind of thing he has oodles of time to mess around with. Really, I didn't even know anyone ever used that feature much - I mean it was rather cool back in its day - but nowdays, doesn't everyone do their digital tracks right to their PC or Mac? I use Sonar and it records flawless digital tracks, right along with the midi tracks.

Not dissing your choice of formats but I think you'd be better off finding a different solution.
