So here are the full details of the Starion I’m offering for sale. I think it’s a cracking car but I don’t really get chance to drive it often (done less than 3,000 miles since I got it about a year ago...) and now I need an estate or a van for house refurbishment, so it’s got to go really.
It’s a 1986 2.0 narrowbody turbo model in red. This was the last model before the introduction of the widebody, so has the bigger intercooler and theoretically the most powerful factory Starion of all. This one is in excellent condition with no significant problems. It drives great with good indicated oil pressure and boost and no smoke (once warm) or any other nasties. It’s just flown through its MOT with only one advisory for headlamp level, which was sorted there and then. It’s very close to standard trim and tune and gets admiring looks and comments all over the place.
Its reading 104,500 miles - and while there’s nothing at all to suggest this is fishy, I don’t really have much history on it. The guy who had it before me found it in dry storage in 2005 and had it recommissioned, quite thoroughly and at considerable expense. In fact, I have receipts for about £7k worth of work, including:
• Replacement of rear arches & rot in engine bulkhead, and respray in original colour (a very good job, I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t found the receipt)
• New Garrett turbo (T3 I think...) with custom fabricated manifold and downpipe, fitted with manual boost control valve
• Longlife 2.25” stainless steel exhaust from downpipe back
• Superflex polyurethane bush kit
• Auto Watch Cat 1 alarm immobiliser
• K&N filter & magnecor ignition leads
• Comprehensive 60k mile service (only 4k miles ago)
It also has the following mods that I know of:
• Full leather interior from a later model in VGC (I haven’t fitted the door cards so still got the original cloth ones but the leather ones come with the car)
• Bailey dump valve, fitted to reduce stress on turbo (v.easy to revert to standard)
• Air filter box cut away to improve airflow
• Face-off CD/Radio with custom made parcelshelf and 3-way speakers
• Aftermarket mats, black with red trim
It’s not a show winner just yet - these are the problems I know of:
• A couple of stone chips – the worse by far is on passenger door which is has taken off a 3-4mm spot of paint but put a little ding in the panel too
• Reverse lights not working
• Black trim strips that run along bottom of the windows on each door are a bit loose and manky
• Black trim strips which run up the side of the boot glass are a bit faded
Well, thats about it. In short, not much wrong at all. I’m not going to be precious about price because its got to go so I’m open to offers. I was hoping for about two grand but like everything else, its worth what people are willing to pay for it! I’d rather sell it through the forum than on the dreaded auction website so if you know anyone who wants a real nice narrowbody, spread the word! It can be viewed by appointment in Clapham, south London.
