Please make the following correction to the key that was sent out with the 1998-1999 compiled virology examination.
99-70 is listed as B, after further consideration, I think that C might also be a valid choice (but I still do not think either B or C are “correct”). I think the best answer for an unknown, unsegmented (single piece), negative-sense RNA virus associated with respiratory disease would be the family Paramyxoviridae, but this is not a choice. Both Bunyaviridae (B) and Othomyxoviridae (C) are SEGMENTED, negative-sense RNA viruses. Both families include viruses associated with respiratory pathology (influenza virus for Othomyxoviridae and sin nombre virus for Bunyaviridae. Therefore, I can come up with equal justification for either B or C. B was the answer marked on the original 1999 exam that I have.
98-72 is listed as B, it should be A.
Nothing complicated -- just a typo -- sorry.
98-73 is listed as A, I think it should be B.
A was the answer marked on the original examination that I have. I disagree. Smallpox disease has been eradicated. Other diseases caused by poxviruses have not been eradicated.

Can I get some opinions about one of the bacteriology questions?
In the CLOSTRIDIUM (C.Perfringes) section, #7 doesn't make sense to me...I don't really understand what it asked, but I don't think C. Perfringes type A or C makes any sort of neurotoxin. But C. tetani and C. botulinum do. Any ideas, comments?
Looking at the bark on the trees (as opposed to the forest),
Well, if anyone is still interested, I found the answer to the above question. C. botulinum has 8 neurotoxins and C. tetani has just one. C. perfringes has none.
So, the correct answer is actually E (C. tetani) for number 7-98 in the Clostridium section.
