The injectors maxed out on the dyno but anyway at 1.2bar with the revs limited to 6250 we got 272rwhp, thats on the conservative MoTec Brisbane dyno. I'm rapt
What is interesting is that its still got more power with more revs to come, maybe to 7500. Yet everything I've read suggests that the GT28RS starts to drop power by ~6000.
Car has the usual turbo mods, IC, 3" exhaust. ECU is a MoTec M4, has a Falcon 65mm TB, stock S12 inlet and exhaust manifolds, adjustable cam timing, ported head, thats it. Love it

That’s awesome dude.
We have had very good results with the GT28RS on SR20’s with similar mods.
One S14 200SX in particular made 300whp @ 6000rpm on 19.8psi with a small intercooler, 3” dump pipe, 3” exhaust and chipped computer.
I suspect you will easily top 300whp with more boost.
Well done

When does it spool up by? Good numbers though. Ive got my limiter set at 7500 with my t28 and i find myself on the limiter a fair bit. They keep pulling.. Oh and im replying on my phone so i hope the post works. Well done. Gareth.

Thanks Gareth, hard to put a number on when it spools up. But its just so driveable, boost is there pretty well all the time. Chose a GT28RS for the mid range punch, definately not disappointed

Discopotato turbo hey!!!!!!!!!!!!! These are meant to be perfect for the 280rwhp and then they fall off. Youre power is a perfect example of this. I doubt you will make much more than 300rwhp but really who cares: your average power is probably awesome and youre probably faster than most on the street since youre on boost on go!!! Good ****!!!!

Nice work 260! Didn't I guestimate around that power level in that other thread? Good to know I can fluke things once every blue moon hahaha
You going to enter it in the Jamboree?

Once again well done Do you have a dyno sheet by any chance or several with rpm, afr, boost, power, torque etc....i doubt you got them all but the more the merrier!
I was thinking that the GT2871R would be an ideal street turbo if you want close the 350rwhp and this also has very very good drivability. Did you every look into this?
Seb

You were right Anthony, it was partly due to your experience that the disco spud was picked too No Jamboree, I'm usually at the QR Sprints though.
Wanted to limit rwhp to 300 max to preserve the transmission Seb, hence the disco spud. From what I've read the GT2871R is an excellent step up for the FJ.
All the indicators suggest that the present setup is good for ~300rwhp under 7K once the injectors are upgraded

Partly due to my experiance eh? You mean my experiance with the apparently miss-matched, laggy, arse-bandit of the Garrett GT series? :D hahaha.
Oh,and thanks for the help with the pulling wheels/bolts apart thing to Thinking I'm gunna have a crack at pulling mine apart.

Finally scanned the only sheet I have, when it was being run in with boost and rev limited, but now can't upload it. Searched, Anthony mentioned something about Internet Explorer having 'insert object' feature but can't find that. So there we are.

Curious to know how you got a T28 flanged turbo onto a T3 flanged manifold ?
I had a custom manifold made but I think an adapter would have worked ok and **** load cheaper !
I really hope you are using the .86 a/r GT28 exhaust housing .
With SR20's the RNN-14 GTiR exhaust manifold works very well and is still available brand spankers in the US .
Cheers .

For you power hounds, this is a running in take, rev limited to 6000, one bar boost. We just wanted to make sure that everything was OK then so it could be driven to the Nationals.
GT28RS has the smaller A/R turbine, at the time of purchase there was no advice around on that aspect. Anyway, its revs fine to the now limited 6500, as the sheet below suggested it would. All the temp etc readings are OK, with bigger injectors we expect ~300whp.
Just check that flat torque curve out, you know how that translates into real world performance don't you, love it

I would not bother screwing any more boost into it . The engineer who created the thing said .86 turbine housing or don't bother on a 2L four. He made the first one purely to race on an 1800cc MX5 which worked very well . It was never intended to go into production but a few escaped and the word got around . My experience with the .86 on an FJ20ET was also very good - virtually no lag .

and from what i have heard the disco was made for a sr20
for a good response and torque for a drift car in the states
and the name disco potatoe is actually the name of the car.

Why not screw any more boost into it Anon? Right up until when the injectors maxed out all the temp etc readings were fine, its got a MoTec ECU so engine management is well under control and set conservatively.
No, once the bigger injectors go on we will be guided by the readings as to how far to go.

Hey,
can you post up some pics of your car and engine bay?
I think dicso was saying not to screw any more boost into it cause you already have the smallest exhaust housing and apparently these were not designed for this but only the 0.86. I rekon wind it up and see how it goes, after all, you have a motec!!!!!!!!!!!
Your power curve looks like a v8 power curve.
I like it.

The original Discopotato was a B15 Sentra SE/R - mechanically same as an N15 Pulsar SSS . I think it had a transverse SR20DET with the GT28RS turbo and some ECU /MAF upgrades by Jim Wolf Technology . It had that spanky colour changing paint so was dubbed the Discopotato .
The second was a Sport Compact Car project US spec S13 240SX (KA24DE) with a JDM SR20DET/GT28RS/front mount IC and similar ECU mods . Look up the article under Project Silvia Part 2 The Turbo .
Discopotato03 was a white 82 Bluebird TRX with all DR30RSX running gear/struts/brakes/Autronic/FMIC and GT28RS . Its gone now but the handle lives on RIP .

The original turbo was a special put together by one of Garretts production engineers in California . It was designed for a Miata (MX5) Mazda BP1800 DOHC for tarmac racing . It used a non integral gate exhaust housing and its TO4B compressor cover was machined for closer than std tolerances . It was specifically designed to have a little more exhaust flow than the compressor needed , so the engine could be used over a wide rev range and still have power out of the corners . This is why I keep telling people its a waste without the .86 a/r turbine housing , they are very responsive with it and not realkly much better with the .64 . All that does is bring it on sooner (increases chance of compressor surge) and places more restriction in the exhaust . Bum steer .
HKS 's GT-SS (SR20DET version not GTR version)which uses the same turbine with a smaller trim 60mm compressor would be better with the .64 housing but its comp airflow is more limited and so max power will be less - very punchy though .
Kids are nagging to go out more later if interested , cheers DP03 .
