purge and fuel tank on there own (on the right) and then theres some kinda cap that is labled purge and signal VC...

im asuming the signal vc line is the smaller/thinner one on top of the cap and the 2nd purge line is the one below the cap (on the left) same size as the purge line on the right ???

also..

what are the 2x purge lines and the signal vc line? where do they go?

im assuming the "fuel tank" line is the fuel tank breather line...

signal line connects into the inlet manifold (vaccuum) - this just goes onto the plenem somewhere???

The purge lines should connect up ahead of the throttle body. - would this mean BOTH purge lines connect to the intake b4 the throtol body?
will boost presure effect this if its here??

also arnt they ment to have "fresh air in" somewhere???

this page from the manual only shows 3 lines.. hence the question :D

cheers

The spare cannister I have has only three connections, marked - dist vc, purge and fuel tank. So I guess one purge could be blanked off on yours if there is no place for it to go.

ah ok.. so not all of them had 4 fittings?

so how do the fj oens get fresh air in??

im assuming the signal trigers the purging of the fuel tank line.. and the gasses come out the purge line into the intake... and which of the purge lines to use and which to block off. lol

but hows the canister get fresh air in to it so that theres no vacum lock?

in al the diagrams iv found on google.. all have fresh air in... :S :?

i think i might go get one of a car at the wreckers thats easyer to work with lol

This is a bit of a technical responce, but I blocked all the hoses and threw the stupid thing away. Vented the fuel tank line somewhere high. car runs fine.

whats the point in risking a defect, or gettign raped by DOT/EPA.. seems stupid if you already had it there

Yeh you need one hooked up to get the car registered. Now, from my 280ZX manual, three lines.

1 Vacuum signal line - to the outside of (before) the throttle butterfly. 2 Cannister purge line - to the inlet manifold. 3 Vapour vent line - to the fuel tank.

Different size cannisters can be got from wreckers of course.

Hey all im planning a trip to SA RTA soon and i have absolutley no emission gear on my car...

Now this is all gone due to having the EMS hooked up, what im wondering is can anyone clarify some things for me concerning the FJ

Ive had mates say that i wont need it cause the dattos pre76' but it clearly states on the engineers report that the motor is from a 85' gazelle so im thinkin i will need it cause im running a post 76' motor...?

Anyhow its been engineered with the EMS previously but i know how hard it is over here, and that any flaw in the setup could mean ill neva get it off defect

Now im wondering how the standard emission setup goes on a FJ...? ive found a 280zx that has a valve thingo which is simular to the rear one on the FJ plenum, now is this where the purge line connects to? i was thinkin of just bolting it all on there and hooking so it looks as it had already met emissions when it was first registered... I feel no emissions gear will be worse than emission gear and me saying (I dunno its how it was when i bought it)

Is this where it goes or does it just use a normal vac fittin on the manifold...? i currently have two plates covering where this valve goes and the other i think it the idle control n all that sits. Clear diagrams or photos of stock setups are hard to find

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks Simon

From memory DR30ET's pick up fresh non pressurised air from the rubber duct between the AFM and turbo inlet . My DR30RS is all standard under the bonnet so I can have a look if your not sure .

Cheers DPO3 .

PS the valves on the inlet manifold were for idle and Exhaust Gas Recirculation .

Ya after when i got home i realised the rear one would have to be EGR...

Anyhow any pics to that can show clearer there they go would be appreciated... cause if thats the case i should still be able to run a charcole canister with a aftermarket ecu just have no recirculation

Thanks Simon

simon your mates are right about pre76 so you dont need emissions, my engineering clearly states 84 nissan fj20 motor in my 71 datto and its ok- if you needed to run canisters and things like that in yours then you would also have to run a cat convertor, which you dont so keep all the emmissions crap off and you should get it over in SA no worries
