Hey guys..as some would know I have done heaps of research in trying to put together a package that would make 250+rwhp in my Sunny race car, with the 36mm restrictor in place. The good news is we smashed that figure today - making 268rwhp! I am over the moon with this result. It also made 260ft/lbs of torque (hope I said that right). The curve is great, and power comes on pretty strong. I will post the dyno sheet when the tuner emails it to me - hopefully later this week.
Should be fun atthe next race meeting - those V8 boys better look out!

Thats a nice result for such a light car and such a dam small restrictor. Id be interested to see what you could do with a hks2530 or the disco spud though.
Nice one and hope you have a good season.

36mm restrictor is not so bad for a 2L four . I think I once mentioned the GT28RS (GT2860RS) for this application as they have a very good balance of air to exhaust gas flow ratio . I seem to remember mentioning that the HKS GT-SS which is just a 2530 or a GT28RS with the 60 trim 60mm compressor instead of a 63T (2530) or 62T (GT28RS) . Restrictors limit total flow because they only have atmospheric pressure to feed them on the atmosphere side . Sizing a compressor to have greater choke flow than the restrictor can pass is an exercise in futility . What it does promote is compressor surge and the only "fix" is to screw back the boost pressure and reduce the compressors throughput .
It may not seem believable but it is in fact the truth . I think you should get your contacts to look at what is being achieved with WRC systems , sure they were use very expensive Garrett competition TR30R turbochargers and ALS but 650 Nm of torque is hard to dispute . One of the better though out Garrett GT28BB turbos could get you better results in my opinion .
I think there is a lot of monkey see monkey do in club level motorsport and things are done a times not for any logical reason .
This will not go over well here for obvious reasons but a smaller lighter engine in a Sunny would help out for handling and weight transfer reasons . Many found out that FJ20's make a Sunny a lead tipped arrow , I would have gone with a CA18DET because it can make the same power output (same restrictor) be far lighter and more compact and has the superior belt cam drive . The direct fire ignition system is a bonus as well .
Sorry if its O/T for this site but if being competitive is your goal it is relevant .
Cheers .

Good work Mark, I bet you are hoping that the Datnats next year are at Phillip Island
Interesting Disco, sort of agree with you concerning the weight penalty of the FJ20 but for durability and a great flowing head they are hard to beat.

Thanks guys, looking forward to this weekend. First race meeting since March, so it should be fun - assuming the car stays in one piece!

Day one has gone pretty much without a hitch, the car has sooo much more power it is a totally different car to drive. I am able to run a taller gear in almost every corner on the track, and carry much more car speed. Getting the power down is going to be our problem, but I made some changes to the set-up today for the last session, and the car felt better.
The good news is we smashed our previous best time at OP GP by nearly 6 seconds! Setting a new bench mark of 1:20.8 The scary part is, it was not a great lap.....I hope we can crack a 1:19 this weekend.
Qualifying at 11:30am tomorrow.....hoping to for top 10, but will be happy with top 15 - of 32 cars entered.
Cheers,
Mark.
