I have thought of doing this before. Piece of piss conversion. Like any other really but HEEPS of room unlike the dattos. Still light weight (1100kg) and a good platform for cheap and easy upgrades. Just engine mounts. Easiest way to do is this. Fit engine and gbox at the same time. USe stock s13 gbox crossmember, and bolt it up to fj box and then bolt onto chasis in original place. Then make custom brakets to fit stock engine mounts. This is all theoretical but should be straight foward. If you fit the fj20e, add a 28rs or a 30r, and youll have plenty of fun. No need to run lower compression, as 9.1:1 is low!!!!!!
Cheers

Get a front cut. Always the best way. You have everything needed and can check the engine running. Certificate will never cost that much. What state are you in? Get some 4 spot calipers from the 32 or 33 gtst for a few hundred dollars and bolt them on. You will need new larger rotors. This is IMO is the most impt conversion before the motor. The stock ca18 brakes are dangerously small.
Get tailshaft shortened (you may not need to).
Thats it, find someone who will pass the conversion. In QLD it costs less than 100 bucks to have it engineered. You just need to find the right person.
Ciao

You may want to ring your local engineer first. In NSW it can't be done (in theory) as the first S13's were 1988 and the last time the FJ20 was produced was in 1985.

Time to do some learning!!!!!
All you need to do this is an engine hoist, angle grinder, a drill, a ruler, a mate (friend not-biological-reproduction-type) some 4-5mm mild steel plate and a welder. For the welder just get an arc welder.
Now bolt up the gearbox cross member to the engine-box combo and then up to the chasis and hold engine up with hoist. Centre engine. The engine will be automatically angled by the gearbox which is its factory location (nissan engines are tilted). Now measure, cut steel and make custom brakets. Use of an arc welder is fine with metal this thick, and anyone can weld with it. Its easy. Only difficult when using thin metal (dont even bother). Dont worry about over-welding cause you can grind it off.
The tailshaft should bolt up...but dont quote me. If not, get it done by a pro...this is a step you have to get done by someone if it doesnt bolt up. There should be 1 inch max bt diff and tailshaft if you move the tailshaft right into the box.
If you can wait, Ill be back in a few weeks and can help you out though it wont be free but no where near as much as 2600.

no conversion for me!!! damn queensland transport poooofs!!!!
i have chosen to sell my car and get some sort of good n\a import!! as most people are aware queensland is going the same way as nsw and vic... under 25yo are not alowed v8's or turbo cars. as of this time next year!!!!

Yeah Seb,that's right.Sort of sux but I can understand why.Imagine a VX Commodore (for eg) with a dirty old smoke blowing 253... Sounds like Daniel may have found this out?? If not, what would it matter if under 25's can't have V8/turbo's as of this time next year? My understanding of those laws is if you can buy/build something before that date, you're right? I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong however.

You can do the conversion as long as the emissions meet the requirement of that year model car.
What engineer has the facilities to check emissions? In Queensland most will check that there is a cat and carbon canister then take your money and slap on a mod plate.

Juggernutz is right. Infact, you can do anything if you have the money and this is no joke. You need to get proper plans drawn up and submitted to qld transport who then get engineers to look at it....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

You can put an older engine in the car. My bluey is an 85 model, and my FJ is an 84 model, and there are plenty of S3 blueys getting around with Fj's.
