Gday guys I am putting a disco potato on my fj and am after some tips on setting up water lines for my turbo. I noticed I have a spare water temp guage hole just near the thermostat that maybe I could tap into??? But I also need a water return line??? Anyone that has done this conversion before could you please give me some tips. Thanks

Pick up water from the blocks drain bung (roughly below turbo) and route the outlet to just on the engine side of the thermostat (drill/tap hole).
If you return the water to outside the thermostat the turbo water line bypasses it and they take ages to warm up in cold weather . Make sure top pipe points upwards even at an angle to avoid gas pockets because it won't thermosyphon otherwise .
If in Syd and want a GT28RS and manifold made to suit let me know . Probably have the water lines kicking around .
Cheers .

Hey mate i am after your gt28rs turbo. You can reach me on:
Water lines to turbos can be as funky and scientific as you like drilling this and tapping that or as simple as tee'ing into the heater hoses.

I can't understand why people want to do it that way , what is the fetish with two heater hoses on the opposite side of the engine to the turbo ?
How difficult is it to take water from the coolest lowest factory tapped hole in the block and run it up through the turbo and then to 1 tapped hole in the head casting ? Turbo aside the monumental task involves drilling the drain bung and brazing in a piece of 8mm bundy tube or a cut off fuel line fitting with the barb . To drill and tap a 1/4 gas thread hole and screw in a brass fuel fitting is hardly rocket science . The lower part is right below the turbo so local and the top one ends up near the top radiator hose . My way is far easier and cheaper that running long hose runs from expensive brass T pieces on the wrong side of the engine . My way is turbo friendly and simple/operates automatically . The heater hose method involves compromise and if it won't thermosyphon is an expensive exercise .
Do as you please .
