hitting limiter at 5000rpm

i have just got my fj going in my aus spec r30 skyline and only every now and then it wont rev past 5000rpm it just hits a limiter, than other times it will rev right out, i was just driving it for about 20 min and it was fine than went to put my foot down and hit limiter, does any1 have any ideas cause i dont have a clue, thanks for any help

Yes I found this out years ago , its because of the lack of the std speedo speed sensor output . You have to bridge two of the wires out in the std loom and I don't remember which ones . I think I still have the loom we did this to kicking around if no one else can tell you .

Pin 29 is for the speed sensor (sensor in the standard speedo head is an electric reed switch tripped by a rotating magnet connected to the speedo drive) , you connect this to Pin 17 on computer to trick the computer into thinking the car is actually moving, which lifts the stand still rev limiter. how did you go with your problem?, does it still rev out at 5000rpm and has doing that caused any other problems

YEAH DID THAT THING WITH THE WIRING AND BRIDGED THE WIRES AND NOW IT IS RUNNING SWEET AND HAVENT HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH IT.

I connect pin 29 and pin 17 and the engine wouldnt start at all!
Did this happen for anyone else???

As a follow up to the post above. What did fix the 5000rpm prob was replacing the speedo cable as it had snapped and wasnt working. As soon as it was replaced, its back revving past 6000rpm no prob!
