I doubt that it's ever been done. There are easier options than that. If your looking for a tought gearbox, go for an RB20DET, or even tougher is an RB25DET gearbag. (These will cost you more though. It will be a much easier fit than a ford or borg warner or whatever they are.
I have an RB25DET gearbag fitted if you need any help with the conversion.
Good luck. |

RB20DET!!! yap I did that!! whent ture 2 of them already!!
Thinking about RB25 but...$$$I guess!
Ford or Chevy is also cool I think, but if "I" or some one do that where can you get your In and out put shaft made to fit the FJ? also the Drive Shaft!! to fit the R200 Diff? the car is for DR30 Skyline! |

Nah M8, you dont get shats made and other funky stuff. By the time you do that, youll spend less on an RB25dett box!
For your input side, you get an FJ clutch plate fitted with the splined center that that fits the Ford shaft.
Also, the pilot bearing will probably have to be changed to allow for the Ford shaft.
This could be tricky as well given the Nissan would be metric and the Ford imperial. Probably machine up a steel button with a bronze bush.
The output side you use the entire Ford uni assembly and have it grafted to your driveshaft.
You are more than likely going to have to get a bellhousing made tho. I have never heard of a conversion you are conterplating so I imagine it will more than liely be a one off.
You might like to approach historic circuit racing car guys as they spend a lot of their time grafting various different engines to different transmissions and making bellhousings is just one part of it.
This is not as difficult as it sounds tho. However, its time consuming and has to be done right or gearbox misalignment, input shaft bearing failures and clutch engagement issues will be your friend.
You copy the front of the Nissan bellhousing onto a sheet of 1/2" steel plate, cut it out and have it accurately drilled.
Same for the gearbox end.
Then the fun begins.
The bellhousing is basically made up of steel tubing that attaches both plates together.
Getting the spacing and the alignment is the critical part.
Lastly, you simply tack some lightweight sheet to the structure to keep water and dirt out.
Sounds easy but again, its quite time consuming. However, you can fabricate up plates to add any gearbox to any engine combo you like.
Add to this the cost of the gearbox you are proposing, the output uni and fitting to your tailshaft and the clutch plate and pilot bearing/bush ....ummmmm..... RB25dett 'box here we come M8!
might be easier and cheaper in the long run!
Good luck

ya!! I guess RB25 is the cheaper way to go!!
Got to find one then!!! the Ford Transmission sounded goog but..hey!
sence im going true the RB20 mission..I gues got to go to RB25!!
on RB25 mission when I use the FJ Drive Shaft can I use the front part of the RB25 to connect to the output side of RB25 mission and the rear part of the FJ Drive Shaft to bolt on the R200 Diff? or I have to custom make the Drive Shaft to Fit?
Thanks a lot guys!!! |

I dont know if the RB and FJ front unis are same/similar or whatever.
However, if they are different, what usually happens is you measure exactly how long you want the tailshaft, and take the front uni assembly (in this case the RB) along with the entire FJ tailshaft to a driveshaft repair shop.
They will usually machine the old driveshaft tubing off from each part and refit the different uni ends with new tubing and rebalance.
Cant help you past that M8.

Regarding the FJ drive shaft front uni. The RB25 front unit and splined shaft, (ie gearbox output shaft) is much bigger than the FJ. The FJ gearbos has the same output shaft as the standard bluebird, becasue the standard bluey drive shaft fits the FJ box. RB25 is way bigger. Best to get a driveshaft built from scratch, so you know you'll never have a problem, mine cost about $450. |
