hey guys , dragged the fj20 powered bluebird out of its sleeping bag trying to solve a cutting out problem which it had when i bought it.it starts & IDLES FINE CAN REV IT UP TO ABOUT 4000 IN NEUTRAL THEN IT CUTS OUT does not stop completely just dies down & picks up,when driving it it has the problem about 1500rpm which is when boost starts to build up. have checked everything i can think of. Can anyone tell me is there a std setting for the flap type air flow meter as it has had the lid of a few times.?? is there a resistanc measurement across 2 terminals etc. pls help dont have any hair left to pull out???
Oh yes it is all std computer harness boost all original.....

Could be many things. Start with the simple ones, fuel, ign. Then after that its eletronic.

Tell us what you have done. It would be easier to know what do to next.

i have done compression test , had injectors cleaned , replaced plug leads & plugs,swapped dizzys,checked for 12v at fuel pump ok. Yesterday i found a fuel reservoir in a box of parts of parts that came with the car , i have set it up with a std bluebird fuel pump pumping from tank to reservoir then looks like vl turbo pump supplying engine ,return line from engine to reservoir & then back to tank. seems maybe slightly better,but would still like to be able to test/check air/flow meter to rule it out , other thing is it probably should have high flow pump supplying fuel to reservoir ?? yes.

if you have the standard air flow meter and the car has not been run for awhile, check that the flap on the meter is free?
I had trouble before and it turned out to be that the flap was sticking, wd-40 and it solved the problem,

this may sound stupid but it happened to my DR

when i just got my car i was fangin it everywere then pop, it just died and i couldnt do anything

all it would do is idle and as soon as it got to 1500rpm to 2000rpm it would stall.

then again yours goes to 4000rpm

checked everything and didnt have a clue what it was..

got raa to come and they said my computer was f##ked

got it towed home and thought i would have one more look

ended up being a intercooler hose hey HA HA HA HA

i cheched all them when it happened but didnt check hard enough lol..... i dounbt it would be your problem but just check anyway

What computer are you running ? Maybe some idiot fitted an NA map sensor, rather than a turbo one, which would make you car cut out on boost.

Std computer so does not have a map sensor. got a high flow pump to feed the swirl pot coming tomorrow , so fingers crossed.

Faulty TPS?
