what r u having the biggest problem with? Is the engine hitting something or not sitting low enough etc?
Surely it cant be that much different to Maddats SR into Stanza kit...

A place location in forum so we know if your local
b place motor into engine bay
c see what needs to be altered for the engine mounts
I know when I put my fj turbo into my bluebird the info I got was *ucked
I saw what someone had done and knew I could do better
so I did one thing at a time and solved the problems, it may of taken me 4 weeks to get it going but 12 years later its still going.
if you cannot buy a kit get the engine into the engine bay and then ask questions on how to solve the problems,
hint if you cannot weld or design what you want your screwed

You aussie's aye? your idea of modifying your cars is buy a kit off the shelf and slap it on... mean custom car...

Engine mounts aren't that hard to make yourself, you'll save a lot of money doing it yourself, rather than buying a maddat kit or something similar. Lower the engine into the engine bay to where it should sit. Look at your mounts and fabricate, (or design) a piece of metal that will fit in the place that the 'engine part' of the fj mount will sit onto... 5mm thick box tubing and 5mm steel plate is your friend. Box tubing comes in many dimensions, i.e. 50mm by 50mm, 80by80, you then cut it in half to get the angle and height you require, (giving you somewhat of a U shape, then weld or get that welded to a piece of steel plate that extends foward/back/or sideways (what ever you require) from your original engine mount position, drill a few holes for the bolts so it wont go anywhere and your done.

I did my fj to 180b in a weekend, and it cost me $100 total in material

Maybe also search the net for pictures of engine mounts to give you some ideas and how you may be able to fabricate something up, its not rocket science, i did mine when i was 17 straight out of school, never done anything like it before... just try it and you will figure a way to do it.

There arent many people who have done this particular conversion so i dont think you will get any online help as such from stanza owners but it wont be that much different to installing the engine into any old datsun.
We can all help you if you take pics of the problems you come across and post them up or link to them here somehow.

You could sell your own kits once youve mastered it...

ok...the mounts i'm using is the original ones from the fj20 and i'm still using the fj20 sump as i didn't encounter any problems with it fitting in .but as for the mounts they seem to be pushed forward toward the front of the engine and also the distance from the back of the engine to the firewall is a lot.

i have heard some guys on fj20.com ,that i'm supposed use back the original L16 engine mounts so that i could retain the original crossmember and gearbox mount.dunno bout this but its gettin wee bit confusing...

i'm using this car for comps so thats the main reason i need this done properly..

any ideas?

if you have money try SWR

you could try Stewart at SWR although I still think slow and steady method of doing it yourself is the way to go,
if you keep paying other people to sort out your problems you only loose more money when you want to sell your car

put the sump back on and reposition the engine to where it needs to be (closer to the firewall etc) and then make custom mounts to suit. You cannot use the original mounts...

hey mate, i didnt put the fj into my stanza but from what i could see the original l16 mounts were left on the crosmember and the motor side mounts were modified to bolt to them by having a flat plate welded accross. his allowed the motor to be positioned correctly in the engine bay.

even so all fj's seem to sit a bit high and forward in stanza engine bays, but give you a bit more working room than 510's

the gearbox mount was also modified to bolt into the same point in the chassis. this was done by welding a plate to accomodate a longer g/box, and the mounting holes further back.

you will need to get ur tailshaft cut down to size as well.

I wish i still had all the bits to give you but i gave them away when i sold my car in bits. I can probably get you in touch with a couple of guys with fj stanza's

Cheers,
Alex

look closely at the pictured engine mounts on the maddat website to suit fj20 into datsun 510. Your mounts will need to be made similar to these by the sounds of it...

I wouldn't despute that, but on most of the OZ forums everyone just asks 'where can i buy this kit' 'can i put ### into ***... where do i by the a kit?' etc etc, and think if there's no kit available they think it cant be done, and would never try and do anything for themselves

I've got an fj in my Stanza, and the engine mounts are modified only a little with another bit of steel welded on and another hole drilled. Everything on the car is original (crossmember etc.) If you can wait a couple of days I'll take photos and post them. It's VERY simple, and is solid and had no problems getting engineered.

Photos soon...

Mate, i put an FJ into a stanza, used the standard engine mounts, sump etc etc...What i did have was an adaptor made up from www.datsport.com that they make up...Just bolted to the engine mount to the adaptor and then bolted that to the cross member!
