Im trying to do the first ever fj conversion into my vw beetle.... has anyone done this conversion b4........i have the engine mounts and can fit the block in but the manifolds hit my boot lid. can anyone tell me do i need to get custom made manifolds or is there a custom made bootlid on the market? Any help appreciated. Aslo as i know the origianl bettle is air cooled can i fit a radiator under my bonnet aka beetle boot and run a super long radiator hose into the rear? As i realise i might have trouble bleeding the coolannt if i run a hose this long? To avoid this problem is there anyway i can convert my fj to air cooled as i figured this would be much easier as i dont think they make radiator hoses that long. Thanks conjabro

I have seen a FJ in a Manx Bug about 10 years ago. It had a big radiator behind the seats. I sure the FJ on to Bug box conversion has probably been done heaps in the off-road racing seen. Maybe try and get hold of the guys that build the off-road racing buggies. I'm not talking about the VW buggies ether. The buggies that look like giant Jet Hoppers.

There's absolutely no way you can air cool your FJ20. The cylinders will be insulated by the old water galleries plus air cooling fins are cast into the original block.
Stick with the radiator in the front idea. I've seen a few MR2's doing this not to mention a few datsun 1200's with radiators in the tray.
