G'day,

Any of you serious FJ20 Turbo gurus out ther done any dyno tuning/testing with modified cams to see what effect changing the lob centres has on power, torque etc. I have a set of 266 duration 400" lift which I run around 108 - 112 deg, it seems to run ok, but hard to tell on the street what effect a change has. I know there is a lot of variables and what works for one set up may not work for another, but I am just after I bit more info or knowedge from those who have done some dyno work (and are willing the share)

My engine is going off to the engine dyno shortly and would be nice to have a reference point. I also have a set of 296 duration 410" lift cams but I think they may be a little big for a turbo engine, particularly with big boost. The engine is a stroked 2.2L running upto 30psi and has all the right things done to it for that sort of boost, and be running on C16 any time it is run over 20psi. Should make some impressive figures when tuned, but as engine dyno time is very exspensive it would be nice not to be adjusting cam timing to many times while tuning it. Any assistance appreciated, Thanks.

It is stroked/offset 3.5mm which gives total stroke of 87mm, cost was around $1200 for memory, would cost a bit more today. 3.5mm is about the most you can go before you start to have rod to bore/block clearances issues if you use standard rod but with custom ones like Argo you can go more. Large stroke can cause other issue with the pistons, as stroke increases piston pin hight increases, and you will run out of room to fit all the rings on the piston and keep adequate strength in the crown, so compromise is required when you do this to an FJ.
