This is quite a tricky thing to measure and not alot of people would have a reason to measure it.
In saying that I sighted it by eye when I had my sump off a few years ago and a standard sump and pickup looked to have a about 20 to 30mm of clearance - but that seems a hell of a lot if people have restricted flow from their sumps being dented. I cant imagine the sump denting up that much without tearing holes in it... |

i put my first fj20 in about 12 years ago, and after wiring it all and getting it fired i was disappointed with the constant engine rattle and lack of oil pressure. pulled the pump apart and kept scratching my head till i had a close look at the sump. it was dented but not heavily and it was enough to be hard up against the pick up. once that was rectified she sprang to life and was perfect.. |

my pickup had a big notch in the side so even if it did squash flat on the bottom of the sump it could still suck oil no probs.
There are a couple types of pickups (S12+DR30 apparently) but i wouldnt be too fussed about a small dint in a sump... | |
