Gday,
Ive had my car registered for a while now and im entered in Powercruise at the end of February. I want to hear from people using standard cams/valve springs and see what boost pressure i can run safely with them?
Bottom end is fully prepared with: Nitrided crank, shot peened and close and honed rods, forged pitons, brand new bearings throughout, oversized big end and little end retainer bolts, fully tested and balanced.
Head is reconditioned with new standard components with some porting down above the valves and in the compression chamber. Standard cams and standard valve springs. Steel cometic head gasket.
Turbo/Manifold/Injectors/Fuel pumps: Garrett T04 on Fantasy tuned manifold with 48mm Turbosmart Progate. 1000cc Delphi injectors on standard inlet manifold with custom fuel rail. Bosch 044 fed by Holley blue into 1 ltr surge tank 3/8 lines.
I want to run 24psi and make 400+rwhp if possible with this setup?
It has previously made 308rwhp on 18psi with current setup except with standard FJ20et injectors.
Can i do it with standard cams and valve springs safely (400rwhp)?
Cheers,
Blayne

anyone have any insight? im thinking aslong as i can keep fuel up to it should be allright on 24psi if i keep the revs down a little to help prevent any valve float?

Since no one else seems keen to jump in,I'll have a go
Mate, your setup sounds similar to my own, except I don't have stock springs.I've made 246RWHP on 10psi.I'm no engine expert, but I'd say have a go and see what happens.I assume you're using a dyno for tuning,so just creep up with the boost slow and see if anything bad happens.

yeah it gets tuned on a dyno and the bloke who tunes it pretty much only does microtechs (and some others.)
Ive pulled it down for an inspection in the last week and everything seems to be fine, no evidence of any problems whatsoever which is pretty encouraging.
im not running a boost controller, im just running wastegate spring pressure and the maximum spring pressure i can achieve with my 48mm progate is 21psi so unless i get a boost controller(which i dont really want to get) ill be running 21psi which i doubt will make 400rwhp anyway but should go close.
I guess we'll just take it slow and keep an eye on a/f mixtures, im still a bit concerned about valve float though, id really like to hear from someone running standard fj valve springs on high boost making around the power figure i want to achieve?

Blayne, I'd speak to a guy named Brian (pistonfreak@hotmail.com), he has a s12 fj20et drift car and he can source the right aftermarket valve springs for very low prices to suit fj20et.
He is located in Blacktown so close enough to you.
After speaking with stewart wilkins on the subject I reckon valve springs will be all you need (if anything).

thanks godzilladat, much appreciated.
ill try and get in contact with Brian.

Mate I'm running standard valve springs in my DR with cams and 550 injectors with a GT30 turbo and on 19psi it made 355rwhp with no dramas, just stared looking like it would start running out of fuel with much more boost than say 20psi.
