I have a GT28RS turbo and hi-mount manifold with ex wastegate. Later I will upgrade the turbo, maybe a GT3076R or similar. 400-500hp..

what size wategate should i buy? can i use the same gate size for the GT28RS and a 400-500hp turbo?

Hi,

Id say a 38mm gate would be fine for either application but a 48mm gate will cover everything no drama.

Slightly off topic, but can someone explain to me why a bigger wastegate is required for more boost?
I'd thouhgt the more boost you want, the smaller gate you'd require, but on high boost/high HP cars they always seem to have big gates? Wouldn't it stand to reason that more boost=more gases through the turbine wheel, therefore not as much to bypass through the wastegate? (=smaller gate?)
Or is it more to do with the boost control? ie stop spikes, etc
I expect there's a good explaination for this - I just don't know it!
