I've just destroyed my RB25 5 speed at Powercruise and now am looking into fitting a trimatic. I have a rebuilt M40 trimatic with 4500 stall in my garage from a 5.0L VL commodore. It has stage 2 shift kit, SS yokes and heavy duty clutches. I will be getting it refreshed and a full manual shift kit fitted in coming weeks.
My first question is what parts do I need to fit it to my FJ in my 1600?
I have sourced a bell housing to suit from Torque-Power, but what flexplate do I use and are there any adaptors etc that I will need?
My second question is has anyone done the same conversion in a 1600 or similar car and will this combo fit in the tunnel?
Any information is much appreciated as always,
Thanks,
Blayne
Also if you're wondering how I destroyed an RB25 5 speed, it was on 25psi shifting second to third at about 7500rpm wheel spinning coming out of turn 9 at Eastern Creek sideways, thanks again.

Hey morrie the shafts are holding up really well so far. I gave it a few big dumps of the clutch in 3rd and 4th gear on the brake and the shafts didn't complain at all. When I get this auto sorted out and fitted im going back to the drag strip with slicks so that will be the real test but i'd say they will be fine from what ive seen so far.
Anyone done the trimatic or can help me out with some info on what parts i need to complete the job?

Its a heavy duty excedy clutch with a big pressure plate, not brass button or anything. It's probably 4 years old I guess and still hooks up really well with road tyres, having said that it's no match for drag slicks.

Thanks,
Blayne

Ok thanks thatd be good. I've been told you can use a 180b flexplate and modify it to suit the FJ20 crank bolt pattern. Anyone heard of this being done? If its possible does anyone have an auto 180b flexplate?

Would a rb one be the same ??? (just throwing suggestions around) .. i have too heard that a L series box is that same as a fj box the only difference is that the L series box shifter will sit on a angle due to the fj sitting on a lean. and the L series sits level if that makes sence

I think I used a bell housing off a L20b engine out of a 200B and also the flex plate( there are different ones around) the one I used was just flat and the centre was cut out and a new centre installed with the 8 bolt holes.
