To cut a long story short i got the the finish line today with an oil pressure of 15 lb normally 60 lb and oil sprayed out everywhere .. line to turbo let go

anyway im running at wheels on wide bay next weekend and the old girl is knocking like a commer nocker

the plan is to drop the sump and check pull the big ends and if it all looks ok throw a new set at it just to get me thru the race next weekend

SO .... the sumps off tomorrow and ill grab a set of bearings and throw em in . Are they readily available or is it like everything else fj ????

btw i got 34 outright out of 145 cars STOKED .... almost worth the blow up

thanks in advance
len

L18 main and big end bearings are the same , just done mine with no problems at all and are a perfect fit , Try some of your local engine shops or Repco even.

I'm sure you will but Make sure you measure your crank and check the main bearings and flush out your oil pump, block and crank incase some bearing metal has been trapped in them. To be sure , To be sure .

Good luck with the race !!

Craig

A lot of people wouldn't know what a Commer Knocker is Len?
Ya gott a tell em!
It's an old supercharged Commer truck circa 1950's?? fitted with a two stroke diesel engine that ran at it's best when it made the most horrible "knocking" sound, just like Lens Bluey Turbo sounded like!
GL at Wide Bay, you doing Leyburn? I'll se you there
(still want my 8x15's ?)

yeah jason still very keen .. il have the motor paid off by then and will be at leyburn
no2 big end has spun and wedged it under the lower bearing ... i didnt think you would fit 2 in there lol

anyway .. all going back together tomorrow and hope it holds out to run wheels , crank has a few minor marks but not to bad

the bearings are the same part number as the L18 but the material composition number is different ??? anyway they fit thats the main thing at the moment

does anyone know if conrod bolts are the same as L series for the FJ ??I have always replaced the tapered bolts due to the spring back

i guess ill find out when i go to buy them tomorrow .. i love the blank stare ... whats a fj20 ???

I found that I had to elongate the oil holes on the L18 bearings so that they didn't partially close off the oil gallery - especially on no. 5 main.

Good luck! Hope the weekend goes well!

Cheers,

Matt

Oops - just realised that you would have already run the event!

How did it go? Did it all hold together?

Well we put it all back together .. the conrod looked pretty ordinary on no2 and we hoped it would make the weekend

I did 2 runs and all was good until i noticed the oil pressure flickering. OOPS

and u guessed it by the time i drove back to the pits i could pick a slight knock so i pulled the pin and shut it down . time or a crank regrind and new rods
ANYONE GOT ANY THER WANNA SELL?
next race is leyburn . i picked up a NA FJ20E today and it might end up running 6lb to finish the season while i do a full rebuild

so the motors out GRRRRRR
