Hello,i'm a newbie here and want to salute all of you, i've been a long time fan of the fj20 engine and searching now for a one for my 1986 s12 which currently runs the ca18et whith the turbo recently dead,it's the second one...
So i know about the engine, but like to know the weak points of it,as it's getting old..
I'll be upgrading it later on , but i've read somewhere about oil problems like cavitating and air bullets in the oil in hight rpm range so can anyone talk a little...
I found a NA one in a junkyard but the owner said it has problems but doesn't know what so do you recommend picking that engine and working on it , i'll have to order parts b cause there isn't parts for it here in Lebanon , he wants 300 dollars...
Thanks for your reply

Hi mate, the main problem with the fj is timing chain rattle which is a easy fix(do a search on this forum for timing chain fix)as for oiling problems if you are not going to run more than 7000rpm the standard turbo pump should be ok.I have a 3 stage dry sump on my car it has 340hp at the wheels on 20psi and I rev it to 8000rpm forged pistons and std N/A fj20 conrods it has after market cams not to sure of the grind, ecu is a motec m4,turbo is a garrett gt3071r.Hope this helps
