so after about 4 seasons of drag racing and being stuck in the 9s ive bit the bullet and finally going to 4 link the rear end of my escort

As the video shows im bunny hopping off the line and i have tried numerous adjustments but i either wheel spin or bunny hop

Worst of all my last run of the day i suffered power loss which resulted in the dreaded knock

Dissected filter shows good old white metal contamination

I got another crank if its to far gone which may be the case as 4 seasons and upwards of 40psi boost with lots of launch control cant do much for the poor old bottom end

The hiding this motor has taken is a true testament to the strength as the main reason of failure is possibly this new super duper 4 stroke motorbike oil the oil techs recommended, should've just stuck to old old semi synthetic as it was fine for all this time up until the oil swap

Tuff car.. 8 second car when sorted for sure!!
Good to hear the reliability you have had with that boost, that tune must be nutted out nicely..
What rear diff assembly are you running at the moment?
Interested to know what semi synthetic oil you guys use? We find that Lucas oil pretty good.

All the best with the freshen up, looking forward to seeing it in action when sorted..

I was wrong about the oil I was using , its this stuff

Total Quartz Racing 10w60 full synthetic

the supplier cuts me a good deal because hes into FJs as well

Im running a full floating 9 inch full spool , aluminium centre 35 spline axels

still running on the stock reset leaf springs with a caltrac setup

caltrac works a little like a tramp rod just more adjustment but still really basic

Im running a superT10 with a straight cut gear set and a single plate solid centre clutch with a 5000lb pressure plate

I am no Drag racing guru.

From a little light reading....LOL....It looks like your instant center of the 4 link is above the 100% Anti-squad line if you have at least 45% of your weight on the rear wheels.

You will need to find the center of gravity....it can be done with corner scales and a jack.

Here is an article on tuning your 4-link

100% anti-squat line

A good guess for the 100% anti-squat line is a line from the top of the front tire to the center of the rear contact patch. Set the instant center just below 100% anti-squat line about the center of the windshield. Then go out and test.

I pulled the motor and found the reason of the knock, the dam oil pickup had snapped off
Two big ends shot but ill give it a polish and see if its terminal, mains all happy,so maybe up for some new rods and another crank , rest of engine looks mint
In a way this is good news that the motor died from a mechanical fatigue issue and not from tuning/boost/launch control, better brace the next oil pickup-still cant believe it actually snapped off
