If you keep a player back like your assistant coach would have liked, it means that you would be allowing the opponent to dictate your strategy to you. By making the adjustment that you made, you took the opponents strategy into consideration and made the appropriate adjustments. Using your assistant coaches thinking, if they kept 3 players forward then you should keep 3 players back. Of, if they keep all of their players forward, you should not even attempt to attack. Obviously that wouldn't make sense and neither would keeping one player back simply because that is what the opponent wants
