Response to Teaching kicking technique

Go to a wall at a school or other with fairly level ground that has some grass. Have the player kick the ball into the wall, trap it as it comes back, and kick again. This will give lots of reps.

Can practice throw ins, lobs, fast foot work, left and right passes, etc. against the wall.

What Dan has indicated are correct. Also teach young kids to "walk thru" the shot. This will additionally teach them to get their whole body into the kick.

The knee leading the kick and being over the ball at impact is very important also. If the kicking leg knee is behind the ball, they are not getting the power or control they need and also can hurt their knee from hyper extentsion.

1) Plant foot 12" to hip width from ball to allow hips to come through.

2) Line of heel to toe of plant foot should point at the target.

3) Plant leg slightly bent for balance and power.

4) Kicking leg hip starts the motion toward the ball.

5) Kicking leg bent with knee coming over the top of the ball will help keep toe pointed down.

6) Walk thru the shot so they finish the kick by landing on the kicking foot. This makes the whole body come thru the shot.

7) Take a video of their kick and play back immediate. They will say "I don't do that" and will be amazed to see "They do do that".

Hope this helps. Improves all my girls immediate.
