At one time my goal was pretty much the same as you stated your own.As my teams progressed and the players grew ,it was difficult to understand thier needs to continue to develop as players.At 43 years old I obtained a NSCAA National Diploma .I am now trainer for 4 young teams.These teams will progress alot quicker due to the methods and ideas I have learned .I also try to impart good coaching habits into the coaches,without the credentials I think this part of my sessions would be difficult.I think it is worth it...Latter on you may want to do more than your team.I do not coach my own team any more but as a trainer I stay involved in the great game and I have a hobby that pays!
