Response to RE: goodcoach/trainer

All the qualities listed so far on right on the money. I would like to add one more which I feel is vital in keeping young players together... I have seen good young teams break apart due to the fact that the coaches did not keep an open line of communication going with the parents of the players. With a roster of up to 18 kids, there are always going to be differences on opinions on various team issues. I feel that the head coach should take the lead in heading off various problems that, left undiscussed, could lead to parents pulling kids from teams. I don't feel that it is enough for the coach to hold only one preseason team meeting. I feel it is important for the head coach to take the time to get to know the parents of each of his players, and keep updates coming to them on the progress of their child as often as possible. In summary, my point is that coaches need to be able to communicate not only with the young player, but also with the young players parents.
