Response to What is Futsal?

Stacey:

Futsal is a five a side indoor court soccer game. It can be played on a basketball court. The ball that is used is smaller and has reduced bounce. The basketball court is your pitch. You can use the three point arc as the goal box. Kwik Goal and other manufacturers sell futsal goals. Most ball manufacturers now offer futsal balls. Take a look at our website www.kcfutsal.org and browse the links there is a lot of information there.

Go to the Soccer Nesletter Archive Item No. 74. Lawrence shared a descripition of the game in his newsletter last winter. This game is a great winter activity and develops good technical and tactical habits. This game is strong in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, and growing in leaps and bounds in England, Asia, and on and on. There are new hotbeds of futsal springing up in the US all the time. It's not too hard to start playing in some form, gyms are everywhere.

I am not sure what level you want to go with your futsal activity, but we play futsal in Kansas City. We have a league with 250 teams. We started with four. We've been doing a tournament for the last four years. Our tournament has covered age groups from U8 up to Over 30. Our tournament started with I think 16 teams. This year we may be playing in four facilities on a possible 13 courts depending on the registration. We think it more likely to use three facilities having nine courts.

As you can tell, I like the game and it has had rapid growth in our area. We worked hard to get started but once play starts, the game sells itself.
