Hope you do not think I was arguing with you. I was providing additional and sometimes opposing food for thought.
Each coach has their priorities, set of rules to live by, does and don'ts. As long as it does not include dirty play, unsportsmanlike conduct, or bad attitudes, who can argue. Helping the kids is all that matters.
I did feel the "running to the ball" could be confusing and was trying to show why.
I agree that a ball beind the defender and toward their goal should be the advantage of the offensive player. Problem is, does the offensive player believe that and know how to fight for the ball. I do not know if not getting to that ball is lazy or caused by a conditioned thought process.
I teach my players a stance that allows them to be immediately running at good pace so not to easily be beaten to the ball by an opponent that is not already running full speed. Hopefully my offset defender will be able to come forward, chase this full speed ahead opponent, and delay until help comes.
A verbal forum would be nice but not practical at this time. We would be able to air pros and cons and more than likely create synergy.
There is some valuable soccer information in here somewhere between the two of us.
Looking forward to more banter that can hopefully help others to help the kids learn and apply good soccer. |
