Response to Helping keepers come off their line

play 4 (and a goalie) v. 4 (and a goalie), or five or six-a-side... to big goals with keepers. Blue team v. white team.

White team can only pass the ball in their half the field, and the blue team can only defend in white's half the field. Once a white player dribbles the ball past the half-way line (into blue's half the field), blue may not defend and the white player is one-on-one with the keeper. Goal, goal-kick, or keeper saves are the results (no corners)... now, the blue team has the ball in their own half the field and must work to give one of their players a break away.

When the break away occurs, defending players should still track back to pick up rebounds from the keeper or the post, and also to allow the keeper a chance to have a quick restart.

If the blue team is in it's half the field trying to get out, and the white team is defending and wins the ball, it's either a 1v1 w/ goalie or you can have them play normal 4v4 until blue wins it back... coaches choice.

I learned this a couple years ago while working at a camp... can't say I've used it more than once, but it may be worth a try
