U8, 5 on 5

This spring I'm coaching U8 5 on 5 where one of the 5 is a goalie. I've coached 8 seasons at the U6, U8 and U10 levels, recreation leagues, but never coached a U8 or U10 team with less than 7 on 7 before. I'm not sure what field positions to teach. Before I go on, remember this is recreational league. I have three players that have not played before and three others that have only played one other season. I am leaning toward playing 1,1,2,1 (two midfielders), but am also considering 1,2,2 (no midfielders). I like the idea of midfielders because I think it makes the kids think and gets them really playing team soccer better. On the other hand, with the skill level of the kids and only 4 on the field besides the goalie, the kids may pick up the 1,2,2 more easily. I appreciate any words of experience.
