Hi George;

It sounds like a matter of comfort level and confidence as opposed to knowledge. The comfort level will come with playing time. If a player feels lost, then she should tell the coach that she feels lost and ask for advice. Don't wait for the coach to bring it up. Its okay. If your daughter has ODP coaches, then to not use them would be a waste. Make sure she asks the questions and not you. If she is timid then you may want to help her with her questions. Going from mid to striker is going to require more patience on her part. She is going from being a catalyst to being a finisher.

A good striker lives to finish and has tremendous confidence in her ability to do just that. It is one thing to see a good striker moving well off the ball. To me, the transformation when presented with a chance to score is so tangible. They move faster, think faster, are more focused, and it seems that they play better with pressure. I believe that the really good ones are able to subconsciously slow things down ("the zone") and simply react.

Sorry about my second paragraph. I know it doesn't relate to your question. I got a little excited thinking about it. It is so great when, as a coach, you have a kid that has the mental aspects of a finisher. Wouldn't want a whole team of them though.
