It is an injustice to the player to have them as a dedicted fulltime goalie.
One half of each game, or alternate games is fine.
We employ this with our team. It is so hard to find keepers that we assure them of playing in the field 100% of the 2nd half.
Kids U15 and under must learn field skills to be an effective keeper. U16 and above they need to dedicate their skills to keeping in games. They still need field work in practice though.
We just had our 2nd keeper quit. Luckily we have 4 other players that are good in goal. We have one primary keeper now. We will play her 1/2 of each game and rotate 3 other players into goal for the other half.
If this adversely impacts our team, so be it. We are more concerned with fun and developement than with score at U12G. | |
