a good drill, which can involve the team is using a 40x20 grid, or whatever depending on the amount of players. Just to make it easier to describe, split the field into thirds, in the middle third play, for example 5v5, or 5v5+2 if numbers up is needed. After a set amount of passes they can play into an end third and one player can follow the pass. Player plays 1v1 with the keeper.
Then work on keepers decicions, and technique :
whether to :- go at players feet
- stand him up
- when to go for the ball etc.
When you've got a good group of keepers they love the comp. that this drill gives. For this situation, beacsue of its nature, a breakaway, there are not many different drills that really effect the keeper, when it gets to them its a 1v1. Before hand you can make it a bit more challenging and maybe involve the communication of the keeper and talk about the start position of the keeper. Also the keeper being on his front foot and reading the game. A really good book that explains the technique used and other drills is 'The Soccer Goalkeeping Handbook' by Alex welsh (who taught me on my coaching course) ISBN 0-7136-4930-5 |
