Hi,
I'm from the Uk and have been coaching since i was 16 - now 25 - i hope i can be of help.
The best way of encouraging movement is to do the opposite - restrict the players and play a break out game. The idea is that you play in a area that has half the field sectioned off, players must 'break out' of the playing zone and receive the ball in the sectioned off area. This encourages running off of the ball, you can develop the practice into 3 sections if you like once the plyers are good enough. The players will initially just boot the ball into space but you canrestrict touches or height of pass to make it more or less difficult. If you want me to clarify i can mail you some diagrams - please feel free to do so.
I have used this practice all my coaching life and it has yet to fail - the plyers love it as it's soccer, scoring points and great fun all in one.
Cheers
