does anyone have ideas about how to motivate and have players focus on the jv high school level. i coach boys and girls jv at a high school for the last 13 years and this year. we have great practices with speed, communication, movement off the ball, and being very physical possessing the ball. when we get to a game, we clam up. no hustle, speed, basic skill, and no one says a word. i have 19 freshmen and 7 sophomores on the team this year. we have played 8 out of 24 games this year and are 6-2. i get so mad at them. for instance. a team we beat 11-0 the first game of the year, we could only beat 1-0 today. i see lack of hustle and girls playing kick ball instead of soccer. we spend 1-2 hours a practice on dribbling, trapping, passing, and shooting and during a game, can't get the goal kick more than 10 yards down the field. i have tried, walk through drills, and light practices the day before games and i have tried alot of running and sprints the practice before games and nothing seems to work. we have 16 games left and i dont want to make it a long season. i have coached for 13 years at the same school and the girls know there is a standard we set. this is the hardest team to figure out. we have more losses now than we have had in the last 3 years.please give suggestions. thanks.
