#1) Your defense should be some of your best and fastest athletes. Sounds like all your speed is up front. No good to use speed up front and score a couple goals if you give up four or five. Better to tie 1-1.
#2) Adopt the 2 step delay on any ball carriers and attack their loss of control or their pass. Your defenders cannot run up and attack the ball carrier. They should get in position to delay the ball carrier and allow their teammates to provide support.
#3) Do your players understand principles of defense?
a) Immediate chase of ball carrier.
b) Delay of ball carrier.
c) Depth of defense with support defender ready to take on ball carrier if 1st defender gets beat.
d) Balance both width and depth of coverage.
Teach your defenders that when they get beat to immediately run to center of field toward goal and come back out to take on another opponent if marking or position if zone.
