Response to Low to near, high to wide - - - it works, but applies to shooting

 

I agree with Ralph... if you are going to shoot, however, most stikers are taught to shoot far post unless they catch the goal keeper cheating.

My experience tells me that when serving the ball, from anything from corner kicks or the run of play, a service to the near post is best when driven in... low and hard. Far post should be higher... perhaps still driven, or sometimes lofted, depend on the situation.

If you float a ball into the near post, it is often too easy for the goal keeper to come get it... a driven ball is harder to deal with, and you get a better chance to score off a deflection (from your team or your opponents)
