Actually, I was diagonsed by a shrink, with ADD, but don't subscribe the the theropy or medication, as I just prefere to go about my way on my own. But thanks for doubting me. When I was diagnosed, they were clear to tell me it was not an illness, so I would be carefull with your choice of words.
It is my opinion, that if you treat children differently, they develope a persona accordingly. I think players often perceive other playres as the same as them and do not like to see others treated differently.
I work with older players, at a fairly high level, so really, I don't have much of a problem. Nor do I dicipline children much, as my team are very well behaived... as they know if they're not, they're free to leave at anytime.
When someone does act up (and yes, I do have players with ADD/ADHD and no I did not diagnose it myself) they are treated accordingly. Albeit, on my team, it's normally just a "hey! focus!"
However, when we're doing excercises or something or if I ask for silence, I get it. If I don't, there are consequences, ADD or not. Subsequently, I don't have problems in this area.
I have a pet peeve with his "disorder" because people sometimes treat it more like HIV than ADD.
