The Changing of The Guard

As I’m sure you all remember, several weeks ago, Kristy announced to the board that she was expecting her first little bundle of joy and also that she would be stepping down as the moderator. However, I think that some of you may have interpreted this to be a temporary thing but actually, it was something that we had been discussing for several months.

The truth of the matter is, Dix and I agreed a long time ago that we were a matched set. Abbott and Costello… Yin and Yang… Pork Chops and Apple Sauce… Oh wait. That was The Brady Bunch, wasn’t it?

Anyway, with that in mind, we knew that if one of us stepped down, we both would. However, after talking to Jade, the three of us have made an even larger decision. It’s been a very long time since Jade was active in running the board and that’s the way she likes it. So… the Jamaristy Era has come to a close. It was great while it lasted, but we honestly believe that it’s time.

So.. what’s next?

From Day One, we’ve always believed that what made this board so stable, was the fact that the moderators were not absentee landlords. We’ve always tried to have a presence on the board and we really think that it’s made a difference, but that doesn’t just mean Kristy and me. After all, it started with Jade and sort of evolved from there. We weren’t the first moderators, and we certainly won’t be the last.

When we decided that we wanted to step down, we knew that first we needed to find someone to step up and take on the task of running the board. As you can imagine, this was no small task. We wanted someone who was passionate about Days and Shelle. We needed someone who cared about the board and would take the responsibility seriously. Lucky for us, we found two such people and happily, after two months of pleading and cajoling, we’ve finally convinced them that they are perfect for the part.

We’re not planning on leaving, we’re just stepping out of the spotlight and back into the shadows. We want the new moderators to run the board the way they see fit, without the three of us peeking over their shoulders. We’ll still be around to post inane chatter and fics. We’ll still be here to speculate on the unimaginable and snipe about Cassie. Actually, we kind of envision ourselves as the Statler and Waldorf of The Haven. You know… the cranky old guys in the balcony on The Muppet Show? Except now… we’re not in charge and it will be up to Carly and JenM to control us, lol!

::cue the evil laughter::

But, in all seriousness, this is a good thing, for all of us. The Haven needs new blood and a new perspective. Like all of you, we hope that Shelle and this board continue on for many years to come. So, as our last official act, we ask that each and every one of you give Carly and JenM your support and respect. They are in charge, and while we’re around to help make the transition smooth, decisions about all current board projects and suggestions and questions should go through them.

On a personal note, we’d like to thank you, all of you, so much for making this a fun and creative outlet for us…we have every confidence in Carly and JenM and support them 100% on their decisions. We can’t wait to see where they take SBFC for 2003 and forward!
