A further thought

Mike,

Wouldn't it be possible for a merchant to say:

"ClickBank, which processes our online orders, cannot handle any refund requests after six months out. If, after that time, you experience any unhappiness with your purchase, please come to us directly and we will fulfill our promise of a lifetime guarantee."

By the way, I imagine there's a "statute of limitations" with respect to chargebacks on Visa/Mastercard/Amex, but I don't know what it is. I wouldn't be surprised if they also told merchants and customers that any problems with credit card charges need to be taken care of within 90 days or six months.

As I said earlier, I don't believe such a policy would constrain any merchant from being able to offer a lifetime guarantee just because the payment provider could not or would not handle the refund.

Refunds should normally be handled by the merchant and not by the payment company. That's the way it works with a credit-card merchant account. Perhaps this whole issue comes up because ClickBank doesn't make an adequate distinction between refunds and chargebacks.

If this seems like kicking a dead horse, let's just drop it.
