Hey Don:
You "might" be one of those guys that just seems to have horseshoes up the backside. But, not everyone is that lucky.
Ask the designer that had to figure out how to fix a site that wasn't browser compatible or give back the money that she'd already spent on her rent.
Ask the "health products" lady from another country who invented great hand lotion and found USA distributors - without checking into the cost of FDA approval for distributing it commercially.
Ask the guy that paid to put up a clothing site with funky fashions, without checking into the shipping and import/export cost if someone placed an order from Bulgaria.
They all went under. So fast, they left skid marks.
You have a good point about seeing if you can make sales. But - to a guy whose sales cover his living expenses because he quit the dayjob - it might be a long haul before he can afford to cover his butt.
Especially when the spouse and 2.5 kids living behind the picket fence are looking to have their lifestyle maintained.
That's why the majority of business startups don't last 3 years.
BUT... there is probably a middle ground.
Like...
1) See if you can pull in sales.
2) If you can get the sales, then file the "major" forms/etc that you need to make the business legit.
Not everyone has the years in marketing that you do - or I do for that matter. Things that you and I do without a second thought are things others don't even know they need to consider.
People need to know their trade. Like you do. Like I do. Not all newbies do - so to them, it's not as easy as it is to you.
I'm sure you'll disagree with me. That's okay... you still have cute pj's. And you drink coffee. Anyone that drinks coffee has got to be A-okay on some level. wink
Have a good one.
: )
