Response to To "Pop" or Not???

Mike,

I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and your advice. You're sharp, successful and willing to share. But I can't help but wonder why you chose to characterize the honest opinion of many that they will not patronize sites with pop-ups, a/k/a browser spam, as whining?

What if I made this statement, using your words:

Says one "Internet Marketer" giving advice... "I'll never buy anything from that person because he uses spam email!!!" Well... "waaah-waaah-waaah..."

Of course I think you would find such a statement ridiculous. But many internet marketers, many of the same big names who condemn email spam so vigorously now (since it has become politically correct and advantageous to do so), have taken the position in the past that those who complain about email spam are whiners.

Are you one of those salesmen who would ignore "no soliciting" signs if cold-calling because you know the prospects are trying to protect themselves from buying, and, besides, it is OK with you to anger many as long as you make a sale now and then?

Or do you choose to respect your prospects enough to act creatively and find another way to reach them without violating their express wishes? Do you agree the method and attitude you choose tells the prospect a lot about you and your priorities?

In other words, is the bottom line the only line?

I'm sorry to see you can't accept the objection to browser spam as legitimate and choose to dismiss it derisively. Nevertheless, the objection and the frequent reaction to browser spam remains. Make fun of us if you wnat, but many of us consider browser spam just as offensive as email spam. Sorry.
