..they STOP resulting in increased sales, subscriptions or both.
There are a lot of things I don't personally like but as long as they are legal and ethical and morally o.k. I'll use them as sales tools.
If that many people really didn't like them, they wouldn't work so well. That may change some day but for now I find they are still very effective.
