Hi,

I used to just be a researcher. Purely intellectual activity, no real activity. "Thought experiments" a la Einstein (obviously I'm not Einstein). I did this from 1994 to 2000. I thought I could learn what I needed to in that manner.
Wrongo!
My wife and I now, I'm rather amazed to report, have over ten sites on the net, and creating these sites added another and deeper and richer layer to my knowledge than the "book learning."
Here's what I mean:
Taking action or "just doing it" (as you and Gordon and Mike Ross--and others--have been telling me to do for years) made lots of "lightbulbs light up." When lightbulbs light up you build connections between isolated pieces of knowledge (factoids), and you formulate rules and solutions that you can apply to new problems.
I don't know the best way to integrate book learning and "just doing it" but the way I did it wasn't the best way. I'm so imperfect it often makes me feel bad, but what can you do? You have to play your cards as best you can I suppose.
