| Selling with eBay, Flea Markets, Wholesale Resources, Retailing and Kiosks...July 12 2002 at 8:41 AM | Mike Rodman | |
| Many of you have written requesting information about selling sunglasses. Others have written looking for wholesale resources for products to resell at Flea Markets and eBay as well as other venues. Still others have asked about eBay as a sole income producing avenue.
I've sold some of my inventory of sunglasses on eBay just to see if it would work, and it does. I paid $28.00 a dozen by purchasing in a volume, instead of the normal $38.00 per dozen cost. On eBay I placed listings for "Compare to Ray Ban", "Compare to Kenneth Cole", etc.
One listing was a Dutch Auction with a dozen listed. Only 4 sold at $7.50. Listings were also for single pairs beginning at $7.00. A few went as high as $15.00+. Others averaged between $8.00-$9.00 for the most part. Shipping and Handling were $4.95. My take... eBay sucks for me!
With packaging, handling orders, running to the Post Office, I quickly tired of eBay once again. To you folks who work eBay I tip my hat to you! LOL
I've done eBay in the past, and the VOLUME of email it elicits for me is cumbersome. Not my style nor my thing. But others apparently do not mind receiving dozens of questions from potential bidders. In the mid-90's I sold a software product for Beanie Babies and was clearing $500-$700 a week for a couple of months. But the emails were killing me so I stopped the listings. (Eventually the Beanie Baby craze slowed down anyway but there are still opportunities with collectibles.)
Here are a couple of URL's I use to track down items... http://www.Wholesale411.com and http://www.bnfUSA.com . Many people on eBay are PowerSellers with the latter URL and you can sell many of their items at Flea Markets, etc.
Summer is ROCKING and I am spending quite a bit of time travelling with my girlfriend and enjoying the weekends. My favorite gaming town came close to burning down but survived with the forest burning right UP TO THE EDGE of one casino! Wheew!
If we can set up a rotation of part time employees we are seriously looking at opening a kiosk in one of our malls for a few months to begin with selling sunglasses, goggles and accessories. Marketing opportunities are everywhere and not solely limited to the Internet. Keep your mind and eyes open...
Tom??? I promise I'll make time to visit with you in the next week. Drop a note on the best times to reach you. Thanks...
Success and Regards... Mike
