Every once in awhile there was a group of guys who came through my old town, and they sold the dickens out of a liquid cleaner.
Young guys working door-to-door with a dozen or more trigger bottles full of cleaner hanging by the trigger from their pockets. With just as many towels and wipe cloths pulled through their belt loops.
The one thing which always impressed me was their "Energy". Full of energy and a smile was plastered across their grills like you wouldn't believe.
The sales pitch was amazingly fast, obviously well-rehearsed, and deathly successful!
It reminded me of those demonstration guys you see at fairs and festivals and still see on late-night television hawking cleaners, ovens, knives, etc. With their hands demonstrating as fast as they were talking it was a bombarment of your senses!
These fellows sold just about every household I saw them at! And I knew there was a tremendous markup on their products.
They would throw in the "bottles" and "extra" cleaners as bonuses, as long as you kept telling them "No thank-you." It finally came to the point you felt absolutely
STOOPID if you
DIDN'T BUY from them!
Oppotunities still abound for those willing to take a risk. And usually the biggest risk, is that of failure. Most people will not push their comfort zones for fear of failure and ridicule.
Thanks for reminding me of these fellows who smiled right through every "No thank-you!" they received. The neighborhood would talk for days about them after they left the area, wondering who had and who hadn't bought from them. Some would make fun of them. I had a good idea they were "smiling" all the way to the bank too!
Success and Regards... Mike
